Week 4: Problem of student lack of interest in subject history 

In Malaysia, history is a compulsory pass subject. If students fail this subject, they will not be able to get the certification of SPM, which is known as “Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia”. As we know history is a subject that let us study about the past events. In this subject, we can know how much wisdom is our ancestors since they build a lot of magnificent buildings such as great wall, pyramid, Angkor Wat. Nowadays, history is become one of the subject that student most dislike of. This is because most of the students think that this subject is incredibly boring and also need to memorise a lot. Some of them think that history is a useless subject because it can’t make a change in our life and cannot earn money.

    If the situation keep continuing, history will be forgotten and no one will learn this subject in the future. What will happen if history doesn’t in the syllabus in school. First, no one will learn how hard that our ancestors been through. The history of human have about 6000 years old, in this 6000 years old most of the event that human faced was wars. Maybe some of the people will say that the world is so peace now why would they need to study about the war. But don’t forget that in this era, still some countries are still suffering from the war such as Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Ukraine and so on. So, we are not living in a peace time, we are only living in a safe place, safe country. Only study the war, people will know that how cruel is the war and how difficult it is to obtain peace since every countries or civilization in before face the war everyday. Hence, people will don’t know in human history the times of war is much more than the times of peace. 

   To solve this students lack of interest in history, there are three creative solutions to solve this problem. First, teachers can play the film or movies include the history contents such as “The heaven of the kingdom”, “Cleopatra”, “Lawrence of Arabia” and so on. This is due to the reason that students will be more motivated when they are watching the movie rather than learning. After watching the movies, students probably will do some research about the character in the movies using their mobile phone or laptop when they are back home. Second, school authorities can arrange a travel for students to visit the museum. This is because students are tending to learn through outdoor activities rather than learning in class. Third, teachers can try to pick some interesting events from history such as story of historical figures during the class. This is because interesting story can obtain student’s attention easily.

     The reason why I write this title is because I was inspired by my grandfather to learn history. During the process of learning, I am started interested in history. Hence, it is very sad that to see the subject of history is hate or dislike by most of the people. The inspiration to come out this creative solution is I was hoped that teachers can play some video or film to us during the class, because learning and listening the class is too boring for me. Hope that the subject of history can be liked by more people, so that everyone will learn their own culture history.
