Week 2: Waiting elevator for too long time in UTAR
Week 2: Waiting elevator for too long time in UTAR
University of Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) is one of the famous and affordable university in Malaysia. With this kind of good reputation, UTAR had won the hearts of many students especially for some students who not so rich. As the increasing of students, the elevator needs is become higher. So, in every morning, there will be a lot of students stand in front of elevator, it will waste a lot of time because they have to wait in a long line. Maybe the students can choose to climb stairs to get in the class and that's true if they only need to climb for one floor or two floor. But, if their class is on sixth floor or seventh floor since UTAR building have ten floor, it is not wise for them to climb up a lot of stairs as we know that climb stairs will might hurt the knee and back. Moreover, not just students only, there are some older lecturer or disabled people who cannot handle the intensity of climbing stairs and don't have the ability to climb stairs, so they have to wait for elevator but no choices.
If the situation like this continue to happen, the reputation of UTAR might be affected and the rank of university in the world will also slide down. This is because in the early morning, students will need to get into a long queue to wait for the elevator. They gonna wait for a long time to get into the elevator, it might cause the students to be late to class. This will cause them to miss some part of content that are taught by their lecturers while they are waiting for the elevator. Hence, their examination result will be affected because they cannot keep up with the course because they missed some parts of the content from class and students cannot understand the lesson because the part they don't understand was already taught by the lecturer early in the class. The examination result of student will affect the rank and the reputation of UTAR. At that time, UTAR will lose their competition compare to other university.
To solve this problem, we will need some creative solution. So, there will be three creative solution to solve this case. First, UTAR should consider to increase the speed of elevator. This is due to the reason that as the speed of the elevator increase, student and lecturer will reach their class early and also they no need to wait the elevator for too long time. Second, UTAR can also consider change the stairs to escalator. This is in fact of the life that students can just step on the stairs and the escalator will automatically bring them to the floor they study at, it not just only faster but also take care of older and disable people. Third, UTAR can consider add two mini storage to let student put the staff in the elevator. This is because students usually are carrying a bag with them, bag will take up space, so if the students put their staff into the mini storage, the elevator will able to accommodate more people. Hence, the more people get into the elevator, the shorter of the queue.
The reason why I write this blog is because every morning, when I go to UTAR, I will see a lot of students stand in front of elevator and wait for it. So, every time when I want to go for class but due to the lack of efficiency of the elevator, my friends and me will always late to the class. The inspiration to come out this creative solution is the time when I go to the shopping mall and take the escalator, the idea of change the stairs to escalator will suddenly come out in my mind and also think that what if the elevator allow more people to get into, so that the queue will not be too long. Hope that the UTAR will become a better university in future.
